5 Tips for Choosing Safe and Harmless Children's Toys

What was your favorite toy when you were little? Is this toy still available? Often as time goes by, the types of children's toys on the market change. So what toy do you want to buy for your baby? Here are some things you should pay attention to in choosing your child's toys.

Tips for choosing safe toys

Toys are something valuable in childhood. But the American Product Safety Commission reports that, about 250,000 accidents are caused by toys in one year. One in three cases occurred in children under the age of five. Therefore, before you decide to buy a toy for your baby, you should first make sure:

1. Is The Toy Big Enough ?

Consider opting for baby toys that boast ample size to guarantee your infant's utmost safety, significantly reducing the risk of suffocation or any potential respiratory blockage. These carefully selected toys should possess a minimum width of 3 cm and a length that extends to a minimum of 6 cm. Exercise extra caution by avoiding any inclusion of small objects such as balls or coins within this toy series, as these diminutive items may pose a choking hazard. It's worth noting that typical baby toys tend to measure merely 4 cm in diameter, potentially fitting snugly into your baby's airway, which emphasizes the importance of selecting larger, safer alternatives.

2. Are The Toys Safe ?

Utilizing a toy that has been passed down through generations within your family or gifted by relatives can often provide an added layer of safety and sentimentality. This is particularly reassuring if the toy has not been in use for an extended period, as wear and tear on its coloring may have occurred over time. However, in the instance of purchasing a brand-new toy, it is imperative to exercise due diligence and ensure that:

  • The toy's coloring remains intact and free from any signs of peeling or fading.
  • There are no potentially hazardous, sharp-edged components that could pose a danger to a child's safety.
  • The toy lacks any parts that could be easily manipulated or squeezed by a baby's delicate fingers.
  • Magnetic elements within the toy are securely affixed and not prone to detachment.
  • No components within the toy exceed the length of 18 centimeters, particularly wire-like structures.
  • The toy is crafted from materials that are known to be safe, devoid of substances such as mercury, cadmium, arsenic, phthalates, and other harmful chemicals.
  • The toy exhibits durability and resilience, ensuring it can withstand the rigors of play without succumbing to damage or deterioration.

By adhering to these comprehensive safety guidelines, you can provide a secure and enjoyable playtime experience for your child while also preserving cherished family heirlooms or fostering meaningful connections with newly acquired toys.

3.Make Sure Each Part Of The Toys Is Not Easy To Open

Browse through all the parts of the toy from the button so that the ribbon part is easy to pull. If the baby toy also has a battery box, first make sure that the battery box is not easily opened by your baby. Opening the battery box may harm your baby.

4.Driven Toys Must Have Safety

Most toys for babies that need to be pushed, will usually be used if your baby can sit balanced without having to be held. But more than that, most toys usually put a sticker that gives information about the target age of the toy. Toys that need to be moved like this, especially a type of piggyback toy, should have safety to prevent the baby from falling, especially if the head is knocked.

5.Avoid Balloons if your child is a baby

Although balloons are one of the fun party items for kids, balloons are one of the most common reasons children choke. When the balloon bursts, or when it is not inflated, the balloon can be put in his mouth and actually choke him. In addition, the balloon material is mostly made of rubber.
